The Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) have deployed a team of cavers to help rescue a man trapped in a Welsh cave.

A man fell and was injured while caving in the Brecon Beacons two days ago and has been unable to get out as a result of his injuries.

The South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team (SMWCRT) said he fell while caving in the Ogof Ffynnon Ddu cave system near Penwyllt, Powys, on Saturday.

Several teams from the South have been assisting and yesterday (Sunday 7 November) UFWRA was contacted to help.

In a statement UFWRA said:

"UWFRA have deployed a small team of cavers to assist in an on going rescue in Ogof Ffynnon Ddu in South Wales. Multiple teams from the South have been assisting and, yesterday afternoon, the British Cave Rescue Council - BCRC requested further assistance from the Northern teams. Our team travelled down overnight and got a few hours sleep before joining the rescue this morning. We wish all the Teams involved a safe trip and a successful outcome."

At least eight teams have joined rescue efforts to save the man.

The cave system is 300 metres deep at its lowest point and stretches to over 30 miles.
