It is hoped there will be hundreds of spectators as Filey hosts the start and finish of Trackrod Rally.

Tonight and tomorrow will see the motorsport event return after it was postponed from last year.

There will be a chance to view all the cars with spectator stage areas set up in Dalby Forest and Cropton.

Keith McGhie, from Trackrod Rally Yorkshire, said:

"It's only been in Filey for four or five years but it's been all over Yorkshire. It started on a farmer's field somewhere near to York and then once it graduated into the forests we had five or six headquarters and all but Filey has proved very successful and seems to be quite popular so we've continued there in recent years.

"It's only been cancelled twice in the event's 40 odd year history, the previous time was for foot and mouth. We're delighted it's back in Filey and we're hoping it goes smoothly because we are being seen as the test event for Motorsport UK. This is the first time rallying has gone back into the forests in England since the pandemic."

The first cars in the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire and Trackrod Historic Cup will be flagged away by the local Mayor at 7pm tonight, before a testing timed-to-the-tenth of a second stage in darkness in nearby Dalby Forest.

The action will then recommence early on Saturday when they will be joined by the remaining competitors contesting the slightly shorter Trackrod Forest Stages Rally over further timed challenges in Cropton, Gale Rigg, Staindale and Langdale (the longest stage at 13.20 miles), before a potentially decisive daylight stage around the same 11.23 miles of Dalby Forest gravel tracks.

The first cars are expected to cross the finish ramp back along Filey's Coast Road just after 3pm.

There will be a colourful and diverse array of vehicles on show over the weekend and spectators are welcome at the start and finish for free, as well as special spectator stage areas set up in Dalby Forest and Cropton, which will be well signed.
