The current coronavirus tiered restrictions for the Yorkshire Coast are set to remain the same after a review.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock made the announcement earlier today as to which parts of the country will be placed under which tier.
The areas in and around Scarborough, Whitby and Filey will remain in Tier 2 whilst Bridlington and the East Riding will stay under Tier 3 restrictions.
John Senior, Chairman of the South Bay Traders Association in Scarborough, said:
"I think we're all very relieved and pleased to hear that we're still in Tier 2; although I do understand that numbers are rising slowly here so I think that's of some concern to all of us in the hospitality industry. But no changes is a good thing so we're very relieved to continue to trade and keep our restaurants open.
"I think since the lockdown finished, generally December is a fairly quiet time for the South and North Bays of Scarborough, the resort areas of Scarborough has been relatively quiet. Saturdays and Sundays have not been particularly busy and I think we're quite relieved about that just for the moment.
"If you do choose to come to the seaside, obviously we are going to be open for business from boxing day onwards and over the New Year. We obviously welcome people to come to Scarborough but if you are then please be respectful, take care, social distancing, masks etc and at the moment this disease is still with us. It hasn't gone away.
"We'll have to see what comes and obviously the health of the nation comes first. Obviously what we'd like to be in the position is by coming up to Easter, is being able to set the clocks back to normal and begin a more normal trade going into the summer; so that people can get back into their normal habits and enjoy the wonderful coast."
