Scarborough takeaway to give free Christmas dinners to those in need
Beach Bites on Eastborough in Scarborough is offering to feed the homeless and people who can't afford a Christmas dinner this year.
A Scarborough takeaway is offering to feed people who can't afford a Christmas dinner this year.
Beach Bites, which is on Eastborough, will be giving out free meals on the big day to those who need them from 12pm till 2pm.
Meals will be boxed up and staff say they have had donations of ingredients from local supermarkets.
Manager, Nathan Pratt, said:
"It's going to be a three course meal. We've going to have a starter of homemade soup, main course which will be like a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, and finally we have mince pies for after and Christmas crackers.
"Around this area, we're down at the seafront and there's a lot of homeless people around here sheltering along the benches; and with coronavirus I wasn't sure if the usual places were opening their doors this year.
"I've had a lot of people messaging offering donations of money or even donations of products. We're not doing this for donations or money, but we've had a generous donation from Proudfoot supermarkets in Eastfield and they've given us 250 mince pies.
"We were just willing to pay out of our own pockets, from the business, to buy our own products. But any support from the local supermarkets are great. Obviously we're going to go out ourselves and buy vegetables, meats, gravy and items such like that.
"It would be good for some other people to get involved as well and help out because I know we're going to do around 250 meals, which is probably only a fraction in the community as we have a lot of different people which probably need help as well.
Anyone wishing to order a large number of meals is asked to contact Beach Bites in advance.
You can do that through their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Beachbitesuk/ or ringing the takeaway on 01723 364422.
