Queen's Platinum Jubilee medals for Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team

33 crew members of Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team have received a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medal.
They attended a reception with their families at the Dalby Forest visitor centre last week.
The volunteers were eligible as they have all served over five years at the emergency service.
Ian Hugill, Incident Controller, said: "I think the main is that we're treated the same way as the statutory blue light services; fire, police, ambulance and the military, in that our service to the community is recognised in this way. What a great year to receive this award when the Queen's celebrating 75 years on the throne.
"We have to raise all of our own funds. Last year we responded to 124 callouts and our annual running costs are in the order of around ÂŁ45,000 per years, which we raise through rattling tins, charity fundraising events and the generosity of our local businesses and community.
"It's very much business as usual but it's nice to be recognised. We managed to take our families along to the presentations and recognise their support. They're the people who see us going out at all hours of the day, disappearing and never knowing when we're coming back and inevitably when we do come back, we're covered in mud and dirt and we're desperate to have a shower and get everything in the washing machine ready for the next shout."
