A Scarborough woman, who raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the Royal British Legion, has died.

Beryl Anderson passed away earlier this week, after a long battle with cancer.

Beryl was married to John Anderson, President of the RBL.

Co-organiser of some this weekend's Remembrance Sunday events, Tom Fox, said:

"Beryl was a stalwart to the aims of the Royal British Legion and led its Poppy Appeal in Scarborough (as local coordinator), taking it to new heights and helping raise several hundreds of thousands of pounds to the cause which was a phenomenal achievement and was a reflection to her drive, determination, amazing organisation and beautiful personality which inspired others around her. She will be missed.

"As sadly, her daughter who lives in Australia is scheduled to arrive Sunday and had hoped to have had time with her mum.

"As a footnote, John who has been hospitalised for some time, discharged himself from hospital so he was able to be with her as she passed.

"The actions of a truly brave and loving man.

"He has now been re-admitted back into hospital. He remains very poorly.

"John and Beryl regularly attended our service".
