Scarborough Cricket Club has spoken up about the racism allegations currently surrounding Yorkshire.

MPs are set to hear evidence tomorrow, about claims made by former player Azeem Rafiq.

There are concerns over the future of some of the county's matches which are hosted in the town, at North Marine Road.

Scarborough's 'Festival of Cricket' has been held during the Summer for the past 135 years and features County and T20 matches.

Scarborough Director, Bill Mustoe, said:

"It is really important to the economy and we always look forward to it every year it comes around. It is a big deal. We have one of the best grounds you could possibly have as an out-ground. It's better than some county grounds.

There's no question that it's in all our interests - not only Scarborough's - but to cricket as a whole, to have cricket at one of the best out-grounds in the country. I don't see why that shouldn't continue and we would welcome it.

I think there's a great issue in society at the moment, that's created a lot of difficulties. You see it in football, you see it elsewhere. I think we need to get to the bottom of how we actually manage all of that and I'm sure there are lots of people who're thinking along those lines at the moment".
