Scarborough’s infection rate continues to climb, as the first easing of lockdown restrictions comes into force today.

The borough’s seven-day infection rate, per 100,000 people, is up to 45, a rise of 11 on the same time last week.

Scarborough is averaging seven new cases every day, compared to five cases a week ago.

Scarborough’s infection rate is now the same as the North Yorkshire average and just 10 behind the average for England.

Only the Selby district in North Yorkshire now has a higher infection rate than Scarborough.

In good news, the number of people to have at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine in Scarborough has risen to 59,611 as of March 21.

It means that 10,775 people in the borough were given a vaccine that week, a huge increase on the 2,758 jabs dispensed the week prior.

Today, the Government’s “stay at home” order has come to an end with groups of six or two households allowed to meet outdoors.

Some outdoor sports activities will also reopen but people will still be urged to work from home where possible.

Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week, for anyone with symptoms to get tested.

William Street Coach Park in Scarborough is also still offering testing, seven days a week, from 8am until 8pm.
