Scarborough’s Covid-19 infection rate remains the lowest in North Yorkshire, for a second day running.

The borough’s seven-day coronavirus infection rate, per 100,000 people, is once more at 17, the same as yesterday.

It means the borough is still averaging 18 new cases a week, down from 25 last week.

Scarborough’s rate is the lowest in the county and below the national average, which is currently 22.

One person has been admitted to Scarborough Hospital with Covid-19 in the last week, after seven days with no cases.

North Yorkshire CCG’s Accountable Officer, Amanda Bloor, told a meeting of the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum this morning that while rates remained low it was important that complacency did not creep in.

She said:

“The guidance remains on social distancing and on Covid safety and it is really positive that our infection rates are low and I know we are all looking forward to the further relaxation of the regulations as we move along the roadmap but for now, restrictions are still in place.

“We do know that complacency can creep in, particularly after receiving the vaccine, and particularly the second dose of the vaccine, but please continue to be careful and cautious, wash your hands, meet outdoors until we move to the next stage of the roadmap and limit your group size.”

Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week, for anyone with symptoms to get tested.
