The Borough of Scarborough has once again topped the list for the most amount of fines issued across North Yorkshire for Covid-19 rule breaches.

At a meeting of the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum yesterday Chief Inspector Charlotte Bloxham of North Yorkshire Police warned residents that the current “stay at home” order remains in place until March 29.

Her message came as 192 fixed penalty notices for breaches of Covid regulations were issued in the last week, the most in the third lockdown so far, with 67 of them coming in Scarborough.

The figures in the week to Sunday (21st February). showed Scarborough Borough with 67, Harrogate with 34, York with 33, Richmondshire with 24, Hambleton and Ryedale both with 13 and Craven with only 7.

Chief Inspector Bloxham added:

“Until March 29 the current lockdown restrictions will stay in place and we will continue to police them and take enforcement action against any breaches.”

“It is really important that we don’t get too far ahead of ourselves at the moment and through irresponsible actions jeopardise the progress we have been making."

However, Scarborough’s coronavirus infection rate remains the lowest in North Yorkshire, after another slight drop overnight.

The borough’s seven day infection rate, per 100,000 people, is now 56, down one on yesterday.

The number of Covid-19 patients in Scarborough Hospital has fallen to 14, down four on last week.

Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week for anyone with symptoms to get tested.
