The Borough of Scarborough is being praised for bringing down infection rates.
A few weeks ago the area had the second highest in the whole of England.
It saw various authorities take action to try and stop people mixing between households, which was the main cause of the rapid rise.
Dr Lincoln Sargeant, Director of Public Health in North Yorkshire, said:
"Scarborough has been a very pleasant experience for us in terms of the response. Clearly when the public rallies together with the agencies, we can show that this is possible. We can manage those rates down fairly quickly.
"If people stopped interacting, particularly between households, if they limit the activities and interactions they have, you can stop this virus dead in its tracks; and we have demonstrated that in Scarborough.
"Whenever the rates begin to rise, before people like ourselves and others have to tell you or put stuff through the letterbox, it's important for communities to begin to regulate their activities because we know that that will have an effect.
"I think we've seen that it all came together and we've seen the proof that these actions do work; and not just anywhere in North Yorkshire but anywhere in the country that does the right things will stop the infections in their tracks.
"I think we're in a stage where all the indicators are in the right direction and that's hugely positive. If we stop inter-household mixing and if we decrease our unnecessary interactions then we can interrupt the spread."
