Tripadvisor has named a bed and breakfast in Scarborough as best in the world.

It was announced as part of their 19th annual Travellers Choice Awards for Hotels.

The Toulson Court, which is on Columbus Ravine, has taken the title for the first time.

Its owners are Angela and James Rusden and he said:

"It's amazing. We're just absolutely delighted; obviously with year that we've had as well, we'd just like to thank all of our guests really for coming, visiting, enjoying what we do and then reviewing us. It's been an amazing 24-hours since we found out really.

"We aren't the Ritz. We're a medium, middle line bed and breakfast in Scarborough. Yeah, luxury but not to the high extremes of some of them but Angela offers a fantastic warm welcome, she makes cupcakes for the guests, we have a fabulous breakfast, we're very friendly and the chef sings whilst having breakfast."

"It's not just what we offer. It's what Scarborough offers. There's so much to do in Scarborough from going to see Kylie Minogue dancing on North Bay Railway as she did two years ago, to riding a donkey on the beach or going around the Italian gardens, there's just so much to do so it's the whole package here. Scarborough's a fabulous place and there's some amazing places to stay in Scarborough."

Janet Deacon, Scarborough Borough Council Tourism and Culture Manager, said:

“We are so proud that our borough is home to Trip Advisor’s best bed and breakfast in the world!

“Congratulations to hosts Angela and James on their amazing success, much of which is down to their passion and commitment to providing a very high quality guest experience with a wonderfully warm Yorkshire coast welcome.”

“A global accolade like this is testament to what our borough’s many successful tourism businesses can achieve when they pull out all the stops to get the important things right.

“As our visitor economy starts to build back better after the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, this award will help to enhance the Yorkshire coast’s reputation as a number one destination for visitors and give the whole industry a really positive boost.”
