The Chairman of Scarborough Athletic says it is great grassroots sport is back.

Although the season's over for the club's senior team, today's relaxation of restrictions does allow others to get involved.

It is as open-air facilities can re-open.

Trevor Bull said:

"The great news is for all of our junior sides is that they start training and they'll be starting league fixtures the following week. We have junior sides from under 8s through to under 17s so they'll be ready to start going again from Monday.

"The important thing of course is to get all of the Covid protocols in place. We've had meetings with our coaches and our welfare officers so our staff are very briefed as to what needs to be done. We're ready, the facilities are ready and we're ready to start kicking balls again.

"It's really fantastic for all the children that are members of our teams but the other great benefit for us is that we're launching Scarborough Athletic Walking Football Club, so for those of us that are a little bit older and can't run around quite so fast, we're launching walking football.

"For a lot of people, mental health has been a real struggle being locked behind the doors so the fact that we can get all age groups out there playing football again is absolutely fantastic."
