A Scarborough man's helping to co-ordinate efforts to bring Ukranian refugees into the area.

We told you last week about Iain Butterworth, who himself has taken two families from the war-torn country.

Through his work, he has contacts in Ukraine and is trying to match sponsors to guests through the 'Homes for Ukraine' scheme, with the Scarborough Sunflower Appeal facebook page.

Iain said:

"It's really sad to see the picture of these people, explaining what's happened to them and who they are.

"There's currently a deficit in terms of potential sponsors in this area, compared to how many guests who would like to come across.

"A number of people have approached me, who have been offering themselves up as a potential sponsor and I've been approached by a number of Ukranian nationals, who are looking for sponsors in the area. I've now managed to match a number of sponsors to guests."

Iain has this advice for potential sponsors:

"It's a decision that they can't take lightly, because we don't know how long this war is going to last. Under the scheme, there is a requirement for sponsors to give their assistance and their property for a minimum of six months. so that's a big commitment."
