Happiness as Scarborough care home resident sees more family
The husband of resident at Saint Cecilia's says he's visiting his wife more
The husband of a care home resident in Scarborough has spoken of his happiness that more family can visit his wife.
Alan Ashton, 74, has been visiting Susan, who is also 74 and has dementia, at Saint Cecilia's for the past five years.
He and his family had their visits restricted due to lockdown regulations.
Alan said: "It's good. There's visiting most days now at the nursing home of which I do go in three times a week to help with her lunch, but I also go on a visit once or twice a week as well.
"It's much better and she's responded much better as well to having visits. Also I have family that live abroad, my daughter has just booked to come from Tenerife at the end of this month because she hasn't seen her for 18 months now.
"My granddaughter went for the first visit last week that she's had since the beginning of the pandemic and my wife just beamed at her for 45 minutes solid, so obviously the recognition was there even though she doesn't speak much now.
"Saint Cecilia's have started to use their own minibus to take people out three or four at a time and when they are going to take my wife, they'll invite me to go along with and that will be nice to just have a ride along the seafront and to get an ice-cream or something."
