Robin Hood's Bay seawall repairs confirmed
The project has been in doubt, because of rising costs.
News that the sea wall in Robin Hood's Bay will be repaired, is being welcomed by a local councillor.
Jane Mortimer, who represents Fylingdales on Scarborough council and is also on the Parish council, says it's a huge relief.
The cabinet at the borough authority has included an extra £850,000 to meet the rising costs of fixing the crumbling structure.
Fylindales Parish Council is also contributing £50,000.
As the structure deteriorates, there were fears half the village could be wiped out.
Jane said:
"I would think Robin Hood's Bay, well part of it certainly, would fall in the sea. It's because of the clay on top of shale, which is a problem.
"So, having a seawall survives and protects the village. I would say one of half of King Street would disappear and probably half or more of Chapel Street would go. You would have half a village left.
"Having the money to ensure that the work will go ahead and protect the village for the next fifty years is essential to us".
