A carers group serving the Scarborough Borough says the pandemic's led to them supporting more carers.

Carers Plus Yorkshire says it's helping double the number of people compared to what they normally would.

Claire Robinson is from there and says more than 17 hundred carers have needed intensive support over the last year:

"It was the sense of loneliness and isolation that we were seeing significantly increase. As you can imagine, as statutory service quite rightly closed down, particularly in the early days of the pandemic, the level of anxiety and cautiousness was rising among our carers."

Today marks the start of National Carers Week and the charity is raising awareness.
