Local elections take place today on the Yorkshire Coast.

In North Yorkshire and the East Riding, Police Fire and Crime Commissioners are being elected.

Polls are open from 7am till 10pm.

Scarborough Borough Council is reassuring residents that polling stations will be safe places to vote.

It says one way systems, enhanced cleaning, social distancing and limited numbers in polling stations at any one time will ensure the venues are Covid-19 secure.

Voters can keep themselves and others safe by:

• wearing a face covering (unless exempt)

• bringing their own pen or pencil to use

• sanitising their hands when entering and leaving the polling station

• keeping a safe distance from others when inside the polling station and when arriving at and leaving the polling station
