Hopes planning will resume for national Armed Forces Day in Scarborough
It's due to take place on Saturday the 25th of June this year after being postponed twice
The Armed Forces Day national event should not just involve Scarborough but Whitby and Filey too.
That is from Tony Randerson, who is Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at the Borough Council, in response to a question at Full Council.
He has been setting out what COULD be happening and what he wants to see during the celebrations.
He says nothing has been finalised yet for this year's national event.
It is due to take place on Saturday 25th June after being postponed twice because of the pandemic.
Cllr. Randerson said:
"This is fantastic news for Scarborough. It's fantastic news for the borough because it's not just about Scarborough. I've indicated to the Whitby and Filey Town Councillors to bring them into the equation and there'll be things going on in both Whitby and Filey, certainly leading up to that weekend so they haven't been forgotten about I can assure you. Each of our seaside towns will be involved in this.
"You normally get at national Armed Forces Day such as the Red Arrows. We have two adopted ships now in Scarborough and all things being well, unless there's some emergency call, those ships will hopefully coming off the coast and hopefully I have made representations that hopefully we can get trips over to those ships if and when they come.
"There's such a lot of work that's gone into this. There's a small team from Scarborough Borough Council that will be working hand and glove with the Armed Forces service personnel, and those meetings will be recommencing very, very shortly I would assume. I've just got my fingers crossed that it goes ahead and that Covid doesn't scupper us again."
