A former council office in Scarborough could be transformed into a recording studio.
Christopher and Kristina Jones want to turn the former home of Scalby Urban District Council into a music space for artists to use.
The building in Scalby Road has been used a residential home since it was converted by its current owner in 2011.
Mr and Mrs Jones have now applied for a change of use for the building to allow it to operate as a recording studio.
Under plans submitted to Scarborough Borough Council, which replaced the urban council in 1974, the couple state:
“We intend to use the ground floor space as a multi-media live and offline content creation facility which will include a professional recording studio.
“The first floor of the property is currently laid out as a self-contained residential flat which we intend to retain in order to provide accommodation for clients.
“The business will serve Scarborough’s creative community as well as bringing business into the town from elsewhere.
“A high-quality content creation facility and recording studio will help to diversify the local economy by providing job opportunities in the creative sector and will appeal to and work with (but not be limited to) musicians, music producers and other creative industry professionals.”
The building, which was constructed in 1937, will be soundproofed in order to reduce noise escaping from the property when it is in use.
Last June, the couple withdrew plans to use part of their own home, also in Scalby, as a recording studio following objections from neighbours.
The Scalby Road plan is now out to consultation.
