Five new homes are to be built on the site of a former computer shop in Scarborough town centre.

KG Services (Yorkshire) Ltd was granted permission to build the terraced town houses by Scarborough Borough Council’s planning committee on Friday, last week.

The development will be located on the site of the former Jennings Computer Services store in Victoria Road.

The site was knocked down in 2017, in part due to subsidence being found beneath the building.

Last year, permission was granted to a different developer to build seven properties but the scheme did not progress.

During last week’s meeting councillors welcomed the new proposal.

Cllr David Jeffels said:

“This could become an exemplar for other sites in Scarborough by bringing people into the town centre.

“I think it is an excellent scheme which will create more footfall in the town.”

The plans were approved unanimously.
