A Scarborough charity is holding a 'stress down day' today with a focus on movement to help relieve anxiety.

The FirstLight Trust, which supports armed forces veterans, is doing it in conjunction with the fire station on North Marine Road, which will be open to the public from 10am till 1pm. Guests will also have the chance to scale platform ladders and take in the sights of Scarborough from 30 metres up in the sky.

During this time, FirstLight Trust will have a stall complete with stress relieving goodies and some delicious homemade bakes from the Café Hub with all proceeds going to supporting veterans of the Emergency Services in the local area.

FirstLight Trust Scarborough will also have a range of Stress Down Day activities taking place at their Café Hub.

James Cook is from there and said: "Stress Down Day is used to highlight the ways in which we can help relieve stress in our own lives by taking simple steps ourselves. This day is about movement and exercise so we have a number of activities going on based around getting people moving.

"A lot of veterans come with a load of different needs and exercise isn't just about moving your body. There's also a social aspect to it so if you join clubs, or if you play football etc, it's about creating those connections with people and helping them get back into the community as well."

Stress Down Day takes place bi-annually on the Fridays before the clocks go forward in Spring and back in Autumn. This campaign promotes emotional and physical wellbeing and supports the people of the Emergency Services and their families when they need it most, with all donations from Stress Down Day going towards this essential work.
