A girl from Filey has come up with an idea to help those who are struggling this Christmas.

Ruby Gleeson, 8, said:

"I am buying loads of chocolates for kids that don't get chocolate on Christmas because I know that I am really lucky and I get chocolate on Christmas and some kids don't."

Her mum Amber said:

"I was blown away by her idea. It makes me and her dad really proud. Just for an eight-year-old to come out with something like that and wanting to do that on their own, out of their own initiative is amazing in itself. I just want to thank everyone who's made donations so far as we've been overwhelmed.

"When Ruby first mentioned the idea, she'd only initially saved £13 in pocket money so I knew that wouldn't really make a dint in things or make a difference, so I opened it up on Facebook for other local children just to spend £1 of their pocket money each and we'll put it all together and it'll all go off to those who need it.

"The chocolates will be going to the Filey Community Fridge, The Rainbow Centre in Scarborough, North Yorkshire County Council's Children and Family Services and the Duke of Kent ward at Scarborough Hospital."

Ruby is still taking donations of chocolate for anyone who wishes to help. The deadline is Sunday 13th December.

The drop off point is at Scott's Hot Roasts in Filey at 36b Station Avenue, YO14 9AE.

She has bought £265 worth of chocolate already which came from pocket money and donations.
