A new Easter pantomime is coming to York next year, and will be performed in a special 'tented palace' on the Knavesmire.

'Aladdin, the Great Yorkshire Pantomime' is the brainchild of Chris Moreno, who's produced the panto at York's Grand Opera House for the last four years.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced many theatres across North Yorkshire to cancel their usual pantomimes this Christmas, so this new production will allow families to get their fix of 'he's behind you' and all the other fun they expect at this time of year in a few months time.

The tented palace complex will include a 54m diameter big top, holding a socially distanced audience of almost 1,000.

On the way in, there'll also be a 'grand foyer', with a bar and theatre food stalls.

There'll be 36 performances altogether over the Easter period, from 19th March to 11th April 2021.
