New Coronavirus variant less apparent in Scarborough
It's claimed it's less of an issue in the borough than in other parts of North Yorkshire.
The new strain of Coronavirus is less apparent in Scarborough than other parts of North Yorkshire.
The county's Local Resilience Forum says that's why the borough's infection rates have dropped more than in other areas.
They've more than halved since November and are now below most others - whereas before they were among the highest.
Director of Health and Adult services at North Yorkshire County Council, Richard Webb, says there were other factors too, such as action from his local authority, Scarborough Borough Council and police.
He also says the effects of the national lockdown are also starting to show.
But, Richard said it's a changeable situation:
"We may be beginning to see the impact now of the national lockdown and that's having some reduction effect on the figures, but the risks we still have are the new variant and also where we have larger outbreaks in concentrated settings - they will add to and change the numbers pretty rapidly."
