School-leavers on the Yorkshire Coast are being invited to take part in a series of workshops, to help them build their confidence.

The aim is to make their next steps, in or out of education, easier.

Open to 16-to-18-year-olds, the course takes place on a selection of mornings and afternoons making up a total of two days a week.

The programme will include activities, open days and workshops ahead of the new academic year.

David Selby is a mentor for Futureworks NY, and leads the sessions. He said: "It really helps those who may be lacking a bit of confidence to take that next step. They know where they want to be but they need just that bit of support between times until they get there.

"Quite a few young people are quite happy to move straight on, to go straight into college and sixth form. But it's going to be a very different environment to what they're used to.

"As well as looking at helping them look at attending first sessions of college and stuff, we do some of the fun stuff, to have a bit of enjoyment. That will hopefully help to ease the anxiuousness."
