TransPennine Express is maintaining its Nova 3 trains there

There are worries Scarborough's train depot is going to cause disturbances to residents yet again.

In the past, the facility on Seamer Road disrupted people's sleep which affected their mental and physical wellbeing.

It is because TransPennine Express' Nova 3 trains were being maintained there overnight.

Now, new timetable changes from Sunday will see the depot used again.

Sue Rawson lives near it and she's concerned: "For us here near the depot, it's been back to what we had for many, many, many years before they built the depot. Life has returned to normal for us apart from the fact that we still hear the trains in the station over a kilometre away.

"If you're kept awake after 11pm and you're woken up at 4.45am, six days a week, for 20 months, I was a total wreck. You're not getting enough sleep, it was going through the pandemic, you were tied to your house, you couldn't go away and I've never, ever felt so desperate.

"They TransPennine Express chose to spend ÂŁ7 million building a depot at the bottom of a steepsided valley in the middle of a residential area. They can't use that as a reason for continuing to use a depot that's caused so much distress, anxiety and despair.

"They're going to cause noise nuisance not to the residents who are trying to sleep at night but the residents who are trying to sleep during the day, if they're on a night shift, but they're also going to cause noise nuisance to all the commercial properties on Seamer Road.

"Right next to the depot is the sports centre and there's also the universities with hundreds of students. There's a whole new cohort of day users in this area who are going to be blighted."
