Schools and colleges in the Borough of Scarborough should know more on how lockdown will affect exam students later.

Gavin Williamson is expected to make an announcement today.

Stuart Carlton, Director of Children and Young People's Services at North Yorkshire County Council, said:

"We're waiting for further Government guidance around distribution of more laptops and IT equipment, guidance on the current lockdown and instructions to school on what they should provide and how they provide it.

"Exams in the way we know them won't happen in the Summer but we're yet to hear what that means. But I'm sure that's creating anxiety and worry for children and parents across the county.

"Previously the Government have said that the same level of outcome for A-Levels and GCSEs, which were considerably high last summer, would continue this year. As soon as we have that information, we'll be talking to our schools to make sure we let them know.

"We have put extra training and supporting into schools around spotting and dealing with mental health provision. Anyone family or young person who's worried can talk to their school and teachers about these things, they are still available to do that."
