The NHS in York and North Yorkshire has reshaped their ADHD services in order to cut their waiting list.

Over a year ago, the Clinical Commissioning Groups asked people to give feedback on their services in order to improve them.

Dr Peter Billingsley, a GP in Scarborough and North Yorkshire's CCG lead for mental health, said: "Even though we've had twice as many referrals coming in, we're still under 12 months when we were over 24 months before because the waiting lists are so much better. When patients do get the treatment they're happy with the service and the retreat have had excellent feedback from patients.

"We relaunched the new service as of last week and we're hoping that we're going to get the waiting list down to about six months this year.

"ADHD is a very treatable condition that can improve quality of life if we have the diagnosis right and the treatment works for them. Most people there's an 80 percent chance of treatment helping whether it's medication or some kind of psychological therapy, they do help."
