The RNLI has marked the start of a month of 'Mayday' fundraising with a 100m Shannon lifeboat drawn onto the beach in Scarborough.

The charity says they are expecting another busy summer, so they are putting out an urgent call for the entire month of May, asking supporters to go the distance and take part in a fundraiser.

They are asking people to cover the distance of a mile in any way they like; such as walking, running, skipping and dancing. The event can be done alone or with a friend socially distanced. It can also be just once or every day for a week. In wellies or on a unicycle. It is entirely up to you.

The RNLI said:

"When you do The Mayday Mile, you’re giving RNLI lifesavers what they need to rescue others, and to come home safe themselves. From first aid training to breathable kit that helps them keep their cool, there are so many vital things you could help fund."
