A farmer is calling on the Government to help bolster national food production- through consistent support.

The appeal comes on as national polling shows that these growers are the second most respected workers in the UK.

"We need to make sure that we have a good base of homegrown food"

Nick Deane lives and farms in Hoveton:

"We live in very volatile times. Climate change is another issue we have to deal with as well, but that's more of an internal one.

"With those volatile times in mind, we need to make sure that we have a good base of homegrown food to ensure that we don't go through any serious food security issues, at a moments notice.

"There's plenty that the Government can do to help with all this. The most important thing they can and should do is help restore confidence in the industry with a long-term plan".

The Environment Department says there's a range of grants and financial incentives on offer to all growers.
