Chilean international Marcelino Nunez has made the shock move from Norfolk To Suffolk today, leaving Norwich FC for their arch-rivals Ipswich Town.
The 25-year-old's signing for Ipswich Town was announced by a social media video from the club, featuring Portman Road legend Danny Haynes, or as Ipswich fans call him the 'Canary Crusher' speaking over videos of Nunez at Portman Road, showcasing his skills and repeatedly touching the Ipswich crest.
The reported fee is thought to be around £10 million pounds, and it follows yesterday's signings of Darnell Furlong on a permanent deal from West Bromwich Albion, and Spanish striker Iván Azón on loan until the end of the season.
In a statement, The Tractor Boys said:
"The club is excited to announce the signing of Chilean central midfielder Marcelino Núñez.
"Marcelino joins Town on a permanent deal from Norwich City, signing a four-year contract to the summer of 2029.
"The 25-year-old has won 30 international caps for his country, scoring five goals, and becomes the first Chilean player to sign for Town.
"Prior to moving to England in 2022, the midfielder represented Universidad Catolica in his homeland, making a total of 83 appearances in all competitions and scoring 11 goals. He won two Chilean top-flight titles during his time at the Santiago club while also featuring in the Copa Libertadores, South America’s leading club competition.
"He joined Norwich ahead of the 2022/23 campaign and quickly became an important player for the Canaries. During his three seasons at Carrow Road, he made 119 appearances and scored 12 goals.
"His first international call-up saw him included in the Chile squad for the 2021 Copa America, with his first cap coming in September 2021 during a World Cup qualifying match against Colombia.
"He arrives at Town having played three times for Norwich at the beginning of the 2025/26 season, scoring the Canaries’ winner away at Watford in the Carabao Cup."
