Woman reportedly struck by minibus in Gateshead
The collision happened on Bensham Road near to the junction of Barrington Place on Wednesday (15 may)
A woman suffered serious injuries after reportedly being struck by a minibus in Gateshead.
Shortly before 4pm on Wednesday, May 15, police were alerted to a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Bensham Road near to the junction of Barrington Place.
It was reported that a white Citroen Relay minibus had been travelling in an easterly direction when – for reasons yet to be established – it has struck a female pedestrian on the road.
Emergency services attended the scene where pedestrian – a woman in her 30s – had suffered serious injuries.
She was taken to hospital and remains there in a critical but stable condition.
The driver of the minibus remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.
Part of the road was closed for several hours but it has since been re-opened.
Officers from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit have launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision – and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
They are particularly keen to understand the moments leading up to the collision, and would like to hear from motorists who were driving in the area at the time, and any witnesses who may have dashcam footage or CCTV.
