Woman dies in Newcastle house fire
Police are investigating after the blaze yesterday morning
A woman has died following a house fire in Newcastle.
Shortly before 10am yesterday, police received a report via the North East Ambulance Service of a fire at an address on Drysdale Crescent in the Brunswick Village area.
Officers from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue service attended and a woman in her 70s was found inside the address.
Despite the efforts of responders, she sadly died at the scene. Her next of kin have been made aware of her death.
Enquiries have been carried out by police and fire investigators and at this stage they do not believe there to be any third-party involvement in the woman’s death.
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Henry, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a woman has sadly lost her life.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“We do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire and a report is being prepared for the coroner.”
