Summer weather impacting the North Tyneside hospitality industry
Cafes and bars in North Tyneside tell us the poor start to the summer is concerning the hospitality industry
There are concerns from the North East hospitality industry that the wet start to this summer could leave seaside cafes and bars struggling to survive.
People running them in places like Tynemouth and Whitley Bay told us they rely on the sun to bring people out to visit.
Gina Lindley, manager of No Fret in Whitley Bay, said: "When it's a lovely day we're a lot busier, it's as simple as that.
"It's as we have a lot more people on the seafront walking past. They're going on beach walks and going on family walks."
A very rainy June and July have left coastal establishments noticing a drop in customers as more people are choosing to stay indoors.
Ed Davis, barista at Cullercoats Coffee, said: "Tynemouth in particular the sun brings people here.
"If it's raining people tend to go to the market and avoid the main front street.
"If the weather continues like this we're going to have a quiet year."
