Police dealing with man on roof of RVI hospital in Newcastle
Officers were called out before 8am this morning

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 7.40am today (Monday), we received a report of a disturbance at a premises on Queen Victoria Road in Newcastle.
“It was reported that a man had climbed onto an internal roof at the RVI hospital and refused to come down.
“A cordon was put in place while emergency services engaged with the man in question, and worked to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
“The man was later brought to safety and placed under arrest.
“We would like to thank everybody for their support and cooperation, including members of the public in the area and all of our partners.”
The entrance to a major hospital in Newcastle's been cordoned off for most of the day after a man climbed on to a roof and refused to come down.
Northumbria Police were called out to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in the city centre this morning and, along with fire service crews, have been attempting to bring the man down safely.
The NHS trust who run the RVI say no patient services have been affected, but have been asking people to enter the hospital via other entrances.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 7.40am today (Monday), we received a report of a disturbance at a premises on Queen Victoria Road in Newcastle.

“Officers are currently in attendance at the scene to engage with the man and bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
“A cordon is in place and members of the public are advised to seek an alternative route into the hospital where possible.”
