A police cordon is in place in Gateshead after a man's body was found.

Northumbria Police say they were called to a report of concern for the welfare of a man in the Shipcote Lane area at 6:10am on Sunday.

Emergency services attended, and confirmed the man was deceased.

A full investigation has now been launched, with the man's death being treated as unexplained.

Northumbria Police say their "officers are in the area to carry out enquiries."
