The opening ceremony for the Paris 2024 Olympics is tonight marking the official start of the Games.

The archery club of GB Olympian Alex Wise say he is helping to inspire the next generation of athletes.

Simon Nichols, chairman of Bowman of Walker archery club in Newcastle, said: "Sometimes the difficulty is getting through the noise of all the big guys of the football, cricket and rugby as well as getting the air time to be noticed.

"But in terms of what he's doing and the example he's setting, absolutely inspiring, he's up there competing with the best in the world."

Alex tried archery for the first time on a holiday to Turkiye and joined the Newcastle Bowmen of Walker club in 2015.

He continued to say: "Alex took to archery like a duck to water.

"He just went through the course, joined, got himself a bow and was breaking club records less than six months after joining."
