Labour's new Gateshead Central and Whickham MP tells us about his main priorities for the area.

It has been nearly 3-weeks since the general election when Keir Starmer became Prime Minister and most the constituencies in the North East turned red.

Mark Ferguson, the new Gateshead Central and Whickham MP, said: "I think people have felt very let down over the last 14-years and felt like we've quite often been forgotten about.

"I'm going to absolutely make sure that Gateshead, Whickham and the North East more generally is absolutely at the forefront of this Labour government.

"So far, I very much feel like this has been the case."

Mark Ferguson was elected as an MP with 18,245 votes, which is nearly half of the votes within the constituency.

He said: "It's about getting more neighbourhood police on the street dealing with anti-social behaviour.

"It's about making sure we're bringing more investment into the community and that particularly involves bringing more jobs, better paid jobs, more skilled jobs.

"If people don't feel like their community is being looked after, that's really obvious to them.

"I'm really keen to see that we get more investment into our local community so that we can be dealing with things like that."
