Newcastle is set to play a leading role in the UK’s first-ever British Indian Restaurant Week
It takes place 1st-7th September
The British Indian Good Food Guide has launched the UK’s first-ever British Indian Restaurant Week, a landmark cultural event celebrating the nation’s most-loved cuisine and supporting the restaurants that have shaped Britain’s culinary identity.
From 1–7 September 2025, diners can explore an outstanding range of Indian restaurants — from Michelin-starred establishments to much-loved local curry houses — with many offering two-course set menus from £20–£55.
The week will showcase all Top 100 restaurants from the 2024 British Indian Good Food Guide, alongside exceptional local favourites from more than 20 UK cities.
“This isn’t just a food event — it’s a celebration of contribution, culture, and community,” said Alan Brown, Marketing Manager at the British Indian Good Food Guide. “We launched this to champion excellence, support hospitality, and help bring people back into restaurants.”
Why This Year Matters
British Indian Restaurant Week was developed in consultation with restaurant owners, chefs, and community leaders in response to serious pressures facing the hospitality industry:
Over 17,000 hospitality businesses are expected to close this year.
Nearly half of restaurants say they may not survive the next 12 months.
Indian restaurants support over 100,000 jobs nationwide.
The sector contributes more than £4 billion annually to the UK economy.
Participation is voluntary and open to high-quality Indian restaurants meeting campaign criteria. Restaurants set their own menus and prices (£20–£55) and manage their own bookings — with no commissions or third-party fees.
Celebrating Britain’s Cities
From Newcastle to Cardiff, Manchester to Glasgow, restaurants are flying the flag for their regions.
Here's the restaurants on Tyneside taking part:
• Raval Indian Brasserie & Bar – fine dining beside the Tyne Bridge
• Dosa Kitchen – authentic South Indian cooking
• Haveli – traditional dishes with renowned hospitality
