Newcastle Fringe Festival kicks off tomorrow - with ten days of theatre, comedy, music and more coming to the city.

5 independent venues are involved - with a hub at Alphabetti Theatre - as well as Dance City and Prohibition Cabaret bar in the city centre, and the Old Coal yard and the Cumberland Arms in Ouseburn.

There's plenty of local artists involved, as well as household names and acts from all over the UK, including Lost Voice Guy, Lauren Pattison, Si Beckwith and more.

There's also theatre, music, dance, cabaret and family friendly shows as well.

Ali Pritchard is one of the festival's co-directors, and tells us it's a huge undertaking that they're working to expand all the time:

"It's bigger, it's better - we want to get it even bigger next year

"We do it completely unfunded - our co-producers are Alphabetti and they support us amazingly."

Ali explains it's a great way for young and up-and-coming artists to get a chance to perform and get their start in a festival scene, where they might not be able to do festivals like Edinburgh;

"New artists, based in the North East...

"A) they may get programmed in it - but also its really important for them just to see that work,

"Because it's so expensive to be able to go and travel all over the world, so that's why we're bringing this work to our wonderful city."
