Newcastle's Business Improvement District says Newcastle United's return to Champions League football will create an economic boost for the region.

It is as people are expected to be travelling from across Europe next season to the city.

Stephen Patterson, Chief Executive of NE1, said: “What a fantastic end to an amazing season.

“Newcastle’s return to Champions League football is phenomenal news for the club, the city, and the whole of the North East. The Champions League isn’t just about football—it’s a game-changer for Newcastle’s economy and local businesses.

“We are back in the top tier of European football and can’t wait to play against teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich and welcome them and their supporters to the city and St James’ Park next season.

“Champions League football will deliver huge financial rewards for the city and put Newcastle in the international spotlight.

“It has been an incredible weekend for the North East, with Newcastle returning to the Champions League and Sunderland moving into the Premier League.

“The North East has a lot to celebrate.”
