Murder investigation underway in Newcastle
It follows the death of a man in his 30's in the Heaton area
Officers have launched a murder investigation after a man sadly died following a suspected assault in Newcastle.
At around 4.50pm yesterday (Wednesday), police were contacted by North East Ambulance Service following a report of concern for a man at an address on Bolingbroke Street in the Heaton area.
Emergency services attended and a man in his 30s was found to have sustained serious injuries.
He was taken to hospital where he sadly died a short time later.
The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the man’s death and a man, in his 30s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
He remains in police custody.
Enquiries have been ongoing since the report was made, and while they’re at an early stage, it is believed the two men involved were known to each other.
Detective Chief Inspector, Katie Smith, of Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts remain with the family who have just lost a loved one.
“Our specially-trained officers are there to offer any support they might need.
“An investigation has been launched in order for us to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
“Our officers remain in the Heaton area while they carry out further enquiries.
“I’d ask anyone with information, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, to get in touch.”
