Man dies after being hit by car in Ponteland
Officers were called to the A696 at around 11.30am yesterday morning

A man has died after being hit by a car in Ponteland.
The collision occurred near to the junction with North Road shortly after 11.35am yesterday (16/6).
It's understood a black Range Rover had been travelling in an easterly direction outside of St Mary’s Parish Church.
The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, died at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.
The driver of the car is assisting with enquiries.
Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.
