Lee Carsley has been appointed as manager of the England men's national football team on an interim basis.

He'll step up from his role as under-21's boss to take charge of their Nations League matches against Republic of Ireland and Finland next month.

But he could stay in the role until the end of the year.

The FA are yet to name a permanent replacement for Gareth Southgate, who resigned following the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

Newcastle United's Eddie Howe had been hotly tipped to be in the running to take over the job, despite repeated comments about his happiness at St James' Park.

Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes are among those who have called for Pep Guardiola to become England manager.

The Manchester City boss has yet to comment on the vacant position.
