Newcastle Trading Standards are warning parents about the dangers of fake Labubu dolls being sold across the North East.

They say that without proper safety checks, the toys may contain choking hazards, toxic materials, or faulty components putting children at serious risk.

It is following over 2,000 of the items were confiscated from 13 retailers in North Tyneside in just one month.

David Ellerington, Newcastle Trading Standards manager, said: "They just fall apart. The eyes come out. It's a choking hazard for children because of the very design of them.

"They're sort of seen as an item for a 36-month-old child left unattended and the child could choke. That's the danger.

"It's a cheap imitation of the original. Be very careful. I know it's difficult because obviously there's a bit of an emotional blackmail from the child. But be careful.

"These goods are probably too good to be true, and there are clear dangers.

"We've got a job to do, and we make sure that these things are safe and off the market.

"We're not going to stop them all getting on the market and being out there and obviously there may be ones already laying in people's houses.

"Have a double look and make sure that the items are safe."
