Gateshead schools in lockdown following "threatening email"
A number of primary and secondary schools have been affected
Several primary and secondary schools in Gateshead have put themselves into lockdown due to a threatening email sent overnight
There's no word on exactly what the contents were as of yet.
We're told parents have been informed and asked not to attend the schools as pupils are remaining on site
Police are in attendance and carrying out searches, here’s what Northumbria Police have told us:
“Just before 9am today (Thursday), we received a report of malicious communications directed towards a number of primary and secondary schools across Gateshead.
“It is understood the emails were received overnight.
“Officers are currently in attendance to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to the public.
"A decision has been made by some of the schools involved to go into a voluntary lockdown as a precautionary measure.”
