Gateshead FC have confirmed the appointment of their former their defender Carl Magnay as their new manager.

The 35 year old, who previously played for the club, as well as spells at Spennymoor and Hartlepool, also returned to Tyneside to coach, assisting Rob Elliott and Louis Storey when Gateshead lifted the FA trophy earlier this year.

He's joined by Liam Bridcutt as the club's new coach. The pair previously worked together as players for Chelsea U21's in their youth.

Chairman Neil Pinkerton told Gateshead FC's website;

"We are delighted to be able to confirm the appointments of Carl and Liam.

"It was hugely important to the board of directors that the necessary time be taken to bring the right people to Gateshead Football Club, and we appreciate our supporter' patience over recent weeks.

"We are fully confident that Carl is the right person to continue the club's progression - just as he has done in his previous spells as player and coach - and we look forward to seeing he and Liam get to work this week."
