Elderly man in life-threatening condition after Gateshead collision
The man, who is in his 90s, was struck by a car on High Street West
Police are appealing for information after an elderly pedestrian was left with life-threatening injuries in Gateshead.
Officers had received a report of a collision involving a man and a vehicle on High West Street shortly after 11:15pm yesterday (23rd December).
It was reported that a black BMW 525D had been travelling westbound on High West Street, near the Regent Street junction, when – for reasons yet to be established – it has struck a pedestrian on the road.
Emergency services attended the scene where the pedestrian – a man in his 90s – has suffered life-threatening injuries. Police say he was taken to hospital where he remains.
The driver of the BMW remained at the scene and is assisting officers with enquiries.
Officers from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision and have today (24th December) appealed for witnesses to come forward.
