A group that support businesses in Newcastle say that the 'Dog on the Tyne' event will help provide an economic boost for the area.

The event on Newcastle’s Quayside will offer everything from dog yoga to dog agility courses, and other activities.

Rachel Barlow, Head of Marketing at Newcastle NE1, said: "This will be the very first NE1 ‘Dog on the Tyne’ event, which we're really excited about. It's something we've wanted to do for a couple of years now and we thought with it being International Dog Day on the Bank Holiday Monday now is the perfect time to do it and give people another reason to enjoy the city.

"It is going to be filled with fun. There's going to be treats there. There's going to be lots of activities and it's based on Newcastle’s Quayside. It was all about bringing together dog lovers and the dogs themselves.

"We anticipate that there's going to be hundreds of dogs and their lovers on the Quayside today, so there is an economic impact which is received by businesses. That's why we do what we do. Similar to Restaurant Week, we know last year there was £2million economic boost for businesses involved.

"Just by bringing dogs and their families down, the restaurants and the bars will feel it as well. We have a lot of dog friendly restaurants in the city now, so it's a brilliant opportunity to come down and enjoy the day and also support all those local businesses nearby too.

"It's another opportunity for people to enjoy the city centre that they're part of. It’s a fabulous place to live, work and play. By having these opportunities, it gives people a chance to come in and explore new businesses they haven't explored before."
